Nick Corcodilos takes on US Employment Issues, Monster, ATS Systems, Databases, Hiring, Congress Pretty Much Everyone

Nick Corcodilos takes on US Employment Issues, Monster, ATS Systems, Databases, Hiring, Congress… Pretty Much Everyone Nick Corcodilos writes a weekly newsletter that is worth subscribing to.  Today he wrote his 500th edition, and its great.  He normally answers questions from readers (many know him as Ask The Headhunter).  He wrote his own question this week, instead of using someone elses, and its very blunt: WTF is going on with employment in America? Yes, wed all like to know that, right? Nick talks a lot about a lot of the aspects of employment (and the job search) in America.  His article is worth reading, and marking it up with a highlighter.  He exposes a key problem with HR departments, and the horrific affect of outsourcing hiring to recruiters, etc.  He again exposes the ridiculousness of job boards, which according to a hiring survey are horribly ineffective but still a huge destination for corporate spending.  He talks about some ideas on how to fix the problems at a meta level.  He even talks about believing in yourself and starting your own business, if the hiring thing isnt working out! Read his post here. The question is, what does any of this mean for you, the job seeker?  Do you do the job search different now, knowing any of this?  I think so! Recruiters Dont Expect a Return on Investment from LinkedIn (part 4)

Recruiters Don’t Expect a Return on Investment from LinkedIn (part 4) LinkedIn has changed recruiters are going mad! And at a time when Trump and Brexit are causing a storm online Well, these things happen in threes! Or do we need some perspective? So, the web (and every meeting I am in with recruiters) is full of how very dare LinkedIn make these changes? “What a disaster… I want to boycott LinkedIn!”. Now, Im not deriding the fact that LinkedIns changes have caused disruption in the recruitment market, but to be fair, this has consistently been the case and has also been a while in coming. Some perspective about LinkedIn How about we stop and think about something? Both you as a recruiter and your lovely clients have access to LinkedIn and your clients often have more budget to spend on a LinkedIn Recruiter Licence. So why are you stressing about the playing field being levelled out, and not being resourceful and looking for opportunities to be competitive? As a recruiter you’re a problem-solving-resourcer-negotiator-clever-being… Oh! And the technology exists for you to create talent pools, warm candidates lists, market your niche the thing Your recruitment CRM is a pretty critical (and often undervalued) bit of kit. 3 really good differences between your recruitment software and LinkedIn Only you have access to your recruitment CRM data. Why are you not seeing this as an opportunity to get your clients queuing up and pay through the nose for your warm talent? When you come (or your recruitment boss wants) to sell the business, your recruitment CRM will be valued (or laughed at by the auditors) No-one will be looking at your LinkedIn network and valuing it If anything they will look at your empty/out of date database and frowning as to why you have spent so much time not creating a talent pool that you can sell. Creating a warm list of candidates and clients, that hear regularly from you, that value you, that look at your jobs, that respond to your emails and calls â€" the fact is most recruitment CRM do this for breakfast (and if yours doesn’t… time to change?) and the same for clients and leads/opportunities â€" this is what clients and candidates want â€" a speedy recruiter who doesn’t need to advertise/source… perhaps (for those that can remember) like recruitment used to be? Not burning your LinkedIn bridges Now, I am a massive fan of LinkedIn. Anything that helps me improve my brand, attracts talent and clients for my recruitment clients, and speeds up sales conversions â€" I’m in… and paying for it… well, nothing in life is free. I don’t fill up with petrol and drive off… I totally see the value of Tesco and don’t expect a free trolley of shopping either. Plus, spending lots of precious time using free stuff is crazy… especially when the average recruiter screams that they have no time to talk to clients and talent. Don’t expect ROI from LinkedIn I have talked before about how recruiters don’t expect ROI from LinkedIn: Recruiters:  Don’t Expect a Return on Investment from LinkedIn (part 1) â€" aka â€" do you know its value? Recruiters:  Don’t Expect a Return on Investment from LinkedIn (part 2) â€" aka â€" do you know its cost? Recruiters: Don’t expect a Return on Investment from LinkedIn (part 3) â€" aka â€" Is LinkedIn Recruiter Really that Expensive? Are recruiters finally expecting a return on investment from LinkedIn and that’s why they’re edgy?

Use Facebook Custom Audiences to Increase Your Brands Sales - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Use Facebook Custom Audiences to Increase Your Brands Sales - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Facebook advertising is a great way for personal brands to immediately start building exposure. Since the program began in 2004 there have been a lot of changes along the way. Today there are a variety of options to choose from to help target the right market. Many brands and businesses advertise on Facebook as a way to promote their content and attract new leads. But what about the conversions after someone has clicked on the ad? This can be a challenge for most campaigns, but there is a solution. Welcome to Facebook Custom Audiences, which is a newer program introduced by the social network to help advertisers to appeal to those they have already made connections with. The service allows ads to be targeted to your brand’s existing email list, which has a much greater ROI than a standard ad campaign. When you create a Custom Audience on Facebook your business is placing its products or services in front of the eyes of its subscribers. A simple CSV file or MailChimp connection is all that is needed. Not convinced yet about how powerful this tool is for your personal brand? How Facebook Custom Audiences Can Increase Visibility Here are several ways Facebook Custom Audiences can enhance your advertising and sales: • Target marketing on Facebook While a general advertising campaign allows for demographics and keywords, a Custom Audience will be seen by a specific target market who is already interested in your brand. • Build interest in your products and services Once a subscriber has viewed your Facebook ad the opportunity to follow-up with them is golden as they have already shown that they are likely to make a purchase. Additionally the chances of social sharing is greatly increased. • Conversions increase A regular advertisement on Facebook can be easily forgotten or overlooked, but if a subscriber is already a loyal follower it’s more possible to convert these into sales. • Less sales work for you When your personal brand puts forth a great offer to its audience on Facebook the tough job of generating a fresh sale is greatly reduced. It’s far easier to nurture someone who is already familiar with your product or service than to those who are seeing it for the first time. Creating a Facebook Custom Audience for your personal brand is as simple as visiting the Ads Manager menu then following the instructions step-by-step in what is about a 30 minute process. The next time your business creates an ad campaign you will be able to select a targeted audience of leads already captured who are familiar with what you have to offer, which will help your brand produce more sales.

8 Qualities that Are More Important than IQ For Success

8 Qualities that Are More Important than IQ For Success From a young age you are  led to believe that the more intelligent you are, the more successful you will be. For starters, throughout the education system you are prepared for one set of exams, after another, under the impression that the brainier you are the better your grades will be. However, this isnt necessarily the case. Though its true that your IQ may have an impact on your career success to some extent, it isnt the be all and end all when it comes to success, as other factors such as your ability to communicate effectively also play a large role. In fact, your emotional intelligence (EI) could be just as important, if not more important than your intellectual intelligence and employers are actively seeking EI qualities in candidates. So if youre not a natural genius, no need to worry, here are a few qualities that may help you achieve success (courtesy of Headway Capital): The BIG 5 personality qualities for  success: Conscientiousness Openness Agreeableness Emotional Stability Extraversion How do these influence success? Individuals who had higher levels of these traits were more likely to achieve higher grades. 85% of financial success is generated from people skills. People prefer to do business with people they like and trust. 8 traits that are more important than IQ: 1) Self-regulation A level of self awareness and the ability to control your emotions, means that you are able to respond reasonably to negative situations, rather than allowing emotions to take over. The ability to think before acting is incredibly important. 2) Growth mindset Self-belief and a willingness to say yes to new opportunities is a really good attitude to have when it comes to progressing in your career. Set-backs should be seen as learning curves to move on past them. 3) Resilience In order to learn from mistakes or set-backs and progress, it is essential that you know how to accept that something went wrong and then do things differently, rather than losing motivation. 4) Passion Pursuing something that you are passionate about will give you that extra motivation to do your best, that knowledge wont provide alone. 5) Empathy If you can put yourself in other peoples shoes and understand their stand points, it will make it much easier to form relationships and work cooperatively in a team. 6) Conscientiousness Having the ability to stay organised, plan ahead and maintain your focus will ensure that tasks are done efficiently. 7) Openness to experience An eagerness to learn new skills and try new things will reflect much better on you than if you were reluctant to broaden your horizons. 8) Social skills Networking and functioning in a team can be some of the most important factors in succeeding in your career. People want to work with people who are approachable and can are good communicators. Top image: Pablo

The pharmaceutical industry is a very lucrative area and there are a lot of career opportunities there. Whether you are interested in the research and development end or the sales and marketing end, there are a lot of different career options for you. If you are interested in pharmaceutical sales, heres how you can get started in your career. Source Pexels CCO License Qualifications In terms of qualifications, it really depends on the company that you are hoping to work for. Most companies do not require you to have a specific degree like you would need if you were going into research and development. Companies are more interested in the qualities that you have and your previous job experience. As demand for healthcare grows, the business behind it becomes more complex. Prepare to meet the challenge by developing in-demand skills to help steer modern practices or manage your own business. Tweet This A lot of them are looking for graduates, but not all of them, so if you dont have a degree, that doesnt mean you wont be able to find a position. However, they are looking for people that have a keen interest in science and medicine, so a related degree will give you a bit of an advantage over the competition. Its not essential but if you are serious about a career in pharmaceutical sales, its worth considering. Skills The most important thing when applying for these jobs is the skills that you have. Pharmaceutical companies are looking for somebody that has a keen interest in science and a good knowledge of the latest innovations in their field. You should keep up with publishing companies like Bentham Science and make sure that you have a good working knowledge of all of the latest research. Demonstrating this knowledge in applications and interviews will be a big help. Companies are also looking for people that have good sales skills. That means a person that is confident and outgoing and gets on well with people. Good communication skills are absolutely essential as well. Pharmaceutical sales is all about hitting targets, so the biggest thing that theyre looking for is somebody that is motivated and goal orientated. You need to highlight these skills on all of your applications and try to come up with good examples from your previous experience. Networking If you start looking at job sites for vacancies in the pharmaceutical sales sector, you might have trouble finding anything. Sometimes, you will see jobs advertised, but a lot of the time, those vacancies will be filled by word of mouth. A lot of the jobs are taken by people that work in other areas of the industry, which does put you at a disadvantage. One option is to try to get a different position in a pharmaceutical company and see if you can move over to sales. Many people think that people are born to be a natural sales person to have a successful career in the industry, along with uber confidence and the almost important gift of the gab. However, in reality there really is no one that is born to be a sales people. If you get enough training and good experience anyone could build a successful career in sales. The most important thing, whether you have a position or not, is networking. If you can network effectively, you will hear about these vacancies and you can express your interest in them. Try to attend any industry events that you can, and you can even ask your doctor who their suppliers are and whether they can put you in touch. Getting into pharmaceutical sales can be tough, but if you follow this advice, you should be able to land your first position. What's next? Ready to take action? 4 Things That Could Be Holding Your Career Back - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

4 Things That Could Be Holding Your Career Back If you’re tired of working in the same old place, doing the same old thing, and it seems that no matter what you do you just can’t get any further ahead, you might actually find that you’re holding yourself back. There are some things that really can stop you from progressing, and once you’ve worked out what they are and dealt with them, you should be able to move forward either in the job you’re working on now. No Confidence If you lack confidence, then you will have a big problem when it comes to moving forward in your career. You might spot a job posting, or a chance at promotion, and tell yourself not to bother with it because you’ll never get it anyway. So you don’t go for it. Or you have the chance to prove yourself and make an important decision, but you lack the confidence to do it, and someone else has to step in. Or you want to speak to your boss about a raise, or about having more responsibility, but you can’t bring yourself to do it. Then you wonder why nothing changes. Confidence is key when it comes to moving ahead with your career; if you have self-confidence, your employers are more likely to spot it and be confident themselves that you can do the job. Too Much Procrastination A little daydreaming is good for you. It helps to secure your goals and keep everything moving on the right track. Too much, however, is a bad thing for your career. If you always find that there is something better to do than get down and serious with your work, or you constantly tell yourself it’s not the right time to try something else, you won’t get very far. It may never be the right time in your mind, but you need to try anyway. What have you got to lose? If it’s going to be done, now is the time to do it. Be brave and take a chance and you’ll be much more likely to be successful. Not Taking A Chance It could be that you’ve seen an advert for a job and you really like the sound of it. Yet it’s based out in the countryside, and the details say that you’ll need a car to get there. You don’t have a car, so you don’t apply, even if otherwise the job was perfect for you. Yet, wouldn’t it be better to apply and see what happens next? If you get called for an interview, ask for a favour from your friends and either borrow a car or ask for a lift. Call a taxi. Just get there and do your best. If you don’t get the job, at least you tried. If you do get the job, invest in a used Ford or similar, because it will be an investment in your future. It’s not taking a chance that won’t get you anywhere. Not Networking In some careers, networking is essential if you want to get ahead. You’ll need to go to events, make yourself known, help people out, and build business relationships that can help you in the future. Becoming more engaged with the people you’re doing business with will not only help your career, but it will make you happier too, plus you’ll be a lot more productive in general because you’re more comfortable doing what you’re doing.
